Hello! I am Autumn Palmer, I am a sophomore attending Drake University with a double major in magazine media and writing. Back home, I live on a farm in Marengo, Illinois.
From a young age, I had a strong interest and passion for writing and creating art. I can remember filling notebook after notebook with endless stories and drawings. Even now, I still have an overabundance of journals and sketch books. Discovering this love for writing and art at a young age definitely guided me to where I am now. When thinking about what to do in college, I knew it had to be something that involved creativity and writing and luckily I have found that happy balance.
In high school, I began to focus a lot on photography and found that I loved being behind the camera and capturing beautiful and natural moments. I decided to start sharing my art on social media, and a lot of my photos can be found on VSCO and Instagram. I have found that a lot of my writing influences my photography and drawing and vice versa. Ultimately, writing and photography have really helped me navigate through life, express myself and process my feelings.
A huge dream and goal of mine is to one day publish a book. For the past seven years, I have been writing a book called Me, Myself and I. The book is a collection of creative personal short essays and poetry following a journey of self-growth through a difficult time in my life. Initially, writing these mini essays that expressed what I was going through was a way to heal, to process things, to move on. After a few years of continuously writing these documents and poetry, I realized that I could turn this into something good and the process of putting my book together came. Recently, I finished writing it, and I hope to begin the process of putting everything together soon.
I have learned a lot about myself through my words and art, and I want to be able to share my writing with others with the hope that my words can help them as much as they helped me. I want to make an impact in the world, a positive change. And, I feel as though I can do this through my words and art.
